Big Brew 2010

starts: May 1st, 2010 at 09:00 AM
ends: May 1st, 2010 at 10:00 PM

Location:  - ,  ,

Description: Each year the AHA finds two or three recipes to highlight for Big Brew. Then hundreds of homebrewers register their Big Brew locations (see Site Registration) for a communal brew-in to celebrate National Homebrew Day. They invite family and friends, or hang posters and flyers around town to advertise their brewing site. Then on the first Saturday in May (May 1, 2010) everyone congregates at the brewing site early enough to join in a collective toast at noon Central time and get on with the brewing. If you would like to find a Big Brew site in your area, you can view the Registered Sites. If there isn't a site in your area, and you are a brewer, please consider signing up to host a site.

The Art and Science of Beer Course

starts: August 20th, 2010 at 09:00 AM
ends: August 25th, 2010 at 06:00 PM

Location: Whitehead Light Station - 19 Emery Wharf Road,  Saint George, ME  04860  (map)

Description: Instructor Charlie Papazian is looking forward to returning to the Whitehead Light Station in 2010 for a reprise of his very popular 2009 course, The Art and Science of Beer. Charlie will discuss beer and brewing and his own remarkable journey, teach program participants about brewing beer, tasting beer, cooking with beer, the history of beer, and simply enjoying beer. The five-night, six-day course (four full days on the island with days one and six being arrival and departure days) will include demonstrations, lectures, informal socializing, great meals, a huge variety of beers, a journey to nearby Belfast to visit two brew pubs, and, as is true for all Whitehead Light Station courses, plenty of time to relax, read, and enjoy being unplugged and unhurried. Most organized activities will be in the mornings or around dinnertime. You do not have to be a devoted homebrewer to enjoy the course. There will be a maximum of 12 course participants.

Tuition: $800.
Food & Lodging: $1,000 (single occupancy) $600 (double occupancy), plus Maine lodging tax.
