Foam on the Range Club Only Competition (COC) Guidelines

All members in good standing with the Club are eligible to participate in COCs.
Points will be awarded to Club members who submit entries to be considered for the COC in the following manner:

  • 1st Place Beer – 4 points***
  • 2nd Place Beer – 3 points
  • 3rd Place Beer – 2 points
  • Non-Placing Beer – 1 Point

***The 1st Place beer is sent on to the national level COC by the brewer to represent FOTR. If the beer places at the national level COC, the brewer will be awarded an additional 4 points for 1st place, 3 points for 2nd place, or 2 points for 3rd place.

Ribbons are awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries.

The Foam on the Range Homebrewer of the Year will be awarded to the Club member that meets the following criteria:

  • The brewer has placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in a COC during the annual cycle, and
  • The brewer has the highest point total for the annual cycle, and
  • The brewer has met a volunteer commitment of judging, stewarding, or hosting at least 2 of the scheduled FOTR qualifying competitions.

The annual cycle is January thru December of each year.

Entry deadlines for each competition will be communicated in a variety of manners, e-mail, web site, message board. However it is ultimately each Club member’s own responsibility to keep abreast of the schedule and deadlines.

Teams of brewers are eligible to enter and collect points; however points awarded to the team are not considered as part of an individual brewer’s point total.

FOTR will reimburse the brewer of a 1st place beer the entry fee and the cost of shipping it to the national level COC up to $15.00. A copy of the winning recipe for posting on the FOTR web page and expense receipts must be turned in to the FOTR treasurer in order to request this reimbursement.

Entries must fit the style guidelines to receive points.

A brewer or team may have multiple entries in a competition; however points are only awarded to the highest placing entry.

All Club members are encouraged to participate. No qualifications necessary to host, steward, or judge except for the appreciation of fine beer.

The FOTR competition committee is charged with interpreting and setting guidelines.
